Things
to Do in New York City
The Late Show with David Letterman.
No Tickets? Who Cares??

Are you taking a vacation in New York City? One of the most fun things to do in New York is free, courtesy of CBS. Go to the Ed Sullivan Theater where the Late Show with David Letterman is taped... and hang out by the Stage Door on Monday through Thursday at around 5pm. You may not be aware that Thursday and Friday's show are both taped on Thursday. The theater is located at 53rd and Broadway and the Stage Door is on 53rd street, next to Rupert Gee's Hello Deli. There will be lots of fans, dedicated autograph seekers and (if there is a big star on that night) paparazzi. What fun! The crowd is usually heavy before the stars arrive, but after they go in, the crowd thins out. Shortly though, the celebrities will come back out and you can get closer. If you are a fan of the show, you will see lots of staff that you recognize coming and going. The staff and band members will often come out for a smoke and you can usually chat with them if you are polite. Here are some shots of my 2001 trip.
John Travolta is one of the nicer celebrities. He signs autographs but doesn't chat much.
